Knowledge, Networking, Atmosphere: These are three outstanding elements of the Campus Symposium. Top-tier speakers meet with important guests of business, academia, science, and politics in an exceptional tent city—a perfect atmosphere for this event.

The purpose of the Campus Symposium is to discuss current economic developments and identify future prospects–each year with a new theme. At the same time, the opportunities to network and exchange experiences are paramount.

Germany, in particular the South Westphalian region, is at the forefront of this international exposition.

The History - A student driven initiative

The idea of the Campus Symposium was developed by students of the Business and Information Technology School (BiTS), a private university, in Iserlohn. BiTS’s mission is to provide a practical education for budding young executives with an international perspective and hands-on experience in innovative projects. As a direct result of this entrepreneurial thinking, the Campus Symposium was born. Since 2005, the international economic congress takes place annually on the university’s campus.

Top-class and highly-regarded leaders like former U.S. President Bill Clinton, NATO Commander-in-Chief General James L. Jones, former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and others have lectured before an enthusiastic audience at BiTS.

Since 2008, BiTS has been part of the international network of Laureate International Universities. For the first time in 2009, the Campus Symposium was broadcast live via online stream to more than 5,000 students worldwide.

The Symposium’s intent is to convey new perspectives and solutions to address current economic challenges. Each year, the Campus Symposium organizational committee, made up of students, graduates and external partners, takes on a new challenge.

Since its early concept, the Campus Symposium has matured into a major forum for international decision-makers from business, politics and science to discuss and present new perspectives on the future. In 2009, the organizational team was able to extend further into a serious exchange of ideas, contact, innovation and approaches between national and international enterprises.

The 2009 topic “Green Business” was well-received and the excitement is growing for the 2010 theme, “Sustainability: Social Reality or Green Illusion”. .
