The Campus Symposium - A success story

The discussion of global challenges. The presentation of innovative ideas. An active exchange of experience. These key phrases have been adopted in the last five years by the Campus Symposium, the student-led organizational team that has cultivated a successful experience for the symposium’s participants.

Once upon a time

What was just supposed to be a small event has since become one of the most important international economic conferences. By advising the Symposium to organize around a theme, the student’s management consultancy, b.one, had broken ground. Former German President Dr. Richard von Weizäcker praised the students’ organizational performance that has produced the following:

  • Launched in 2006 with the motto “Future Needs Competence”, former U.S. President Bill Clinton impressed the audience by talking about entrepreneurial success in the 21st century.

  • Then, in 2007, the students scored a world political heavyweight speaker—, the former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, who shared his perspectives on a future-orientated way of thinking in this global economy.

  • The Campus Symposium of 2008 attracted Nobel Peace Prize laureate and former President of Poland Lech Walesa and former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder. More than 200 volunteers and 150 journalists were responsible for increasing the interest in and improving the exposure to the dynamic Symposium on the Seilersee.

  • Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair addressed the audience of the 2009 Campus Symposium as one of only a few economic conferences in Germany that tackled a future-orientated nexus between economy and ecology. The “Green Business Conference” left a positive mark on the speakers and our guests equally and invited further exploration and discussion.

Since its inception, the Campus Symposium in Iserlohn has grown from a student-led initiative into a one of the biggest business events in Germany. With the elegant 4,000 m2 tent city as a venue and more than 1,000 international guests from economy and science, the Symposium is now one of the most important economic conferences in Germany.

This year, executives, leaders and experts from all over Germany are looking forward to experiencing Al Gore as the keynote speaker at the 2010 Campus Symposium. The students have decided to further develop the topic of 2009, Green Business, and to consider the implications of economic sustainability and social responsibility to “go green”.

Be part of the fascination at the 2010 Campus Symposium. Come visit the campus of BiTS University in Iserlohn on September 2nd and 3rd. We look forward to welcoming you!
