2008: Innovation as a Concept for the Future

The members of Team 2008 were unanimous in agreeing that everything was to be bigger, better and more attractive than ever! And we well and truly succeeded.

First of all, the marquee concept was altered to form an atrium between the tents that could be used as a garden area. Apart from that, some of the tent walls were made of transparent material, enabling a magnificent view from the gala marquee into the garden. The interior of the tent town was upgraded by additional, more sophisticated decorations and lighting technology in comparison to previous years.

phoca_thumb_l_2008The content of the Symposium was also given a new approach. For the first time, the topic “Innovation as a Concept for the Future” was presented by three keynote speakers - Gerhard Schröder, Edmund Stoiber and Lech Walesa – who also signed the book of honor of the town of Iserlohn. In combination with many other rousing orators from politics, science and economics who attended the Seilersee lakeside event, we succeeded in presenting a very broad spectrum of topics under the title "Innovation as a Concept for the Future".

But we also had to adjust our structural attitude and reorganize ourselves somewhat because, in the second year after Clinton, it became obvious that the system of changing the whole team each year had reached the limits of its capacity. It was very difficult to transfer the requisite amount of knowledge to the next generation in such a short time. A solution to this issue was, however, soon found.

Part of the team of 2008 was to remain – and is still in office - as the core team for the Campus Symposium, ensuring that even greater consistency has been achieved in the work of the alternating members. This was also associated with the introduction of the new master’s course of studies at the BiTS which then offered students further opportunities for post-graduate studies.
